Regular Part Time

The successful candidate will support the development of evidenced based, best-practice nursing psychiatric/mental health clinical skills development within our tertiary mental health care environment, advancing a recovery framework which engages a psychosocial rehabilitation model. Primary activities of this role are leading learning initiatives focused on workplace safety, prevention of workplace violence and the Prevention and Intervention in a Crisis Situation (PICS) program within all care environments of Parkwood Institute Mental Health Care Building and Southwest Centre .This role will also be linked with new staff orientation, support learning within our St. Joseph’s clinical practice coach (preceptor) model, fostering therapeutic relationship skills and practice development. The nurse educator continuously collaborates to design effective learning strategies through collaboration with multiple partners: Clinical Teams and programs across our Mental Health sites, Operational Leaders, peers, Nursing council, Practice Consultants, and the broader Organizational Development and Learning Services team as required. The successful candidate is an experienced and enthusiastic influencer who brings energy to their work and relationships and builds community among teams they serve.

Essential Qualifications

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Three years recent active psychiatric/mental health experience, including within a tertiary care environment
  • Excellent knowledge of adult education principles and learning styles
  • Expert assessment, and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work with staff in all roles
  • Experience in supporting colleagues to manage change effectively, and insight into change impact within organizations
  • Evidence of ability to support a collaborative and empowering learning environment
  • Demonstrated skills for one-on-one and group interaction
  • Experience providing effective, outcome oriented performance coaching to individuals and groups (eg. experience as a clinical preceptor)
  • Proven initiative and leadership abilities and self-directedness
  • Evidence of continuous learning and the use of research in nursing practice
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong organizational, consultation and negotiation skills
  • Skill at managing projects related to changes in nursing practice or work processes
  • Strong computer skills with experience working within a Windows and Microsoft office environment
  • Previous teaching experience
  • Previous committee involvement

Preferred Qualifications

  • MScN Nursing or another related field
  • CNA Specialty Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health, CPMHN(C)
  • Certificate or Diploma in Adult Learning
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Benner’s novice-to-expert continuum and its application to the staff’s development process
  • Experience in an electronic Health Record/Documentation environment
