Course Description
This 10-week on-line course focuses on the practical application of theory and evidence on design, delivery and facilitation of nursing education in the practice setting. The course will include:

  • development of learning needs assessments for individuals and groups;
  • creation of learner centred goals and objectives;
  • incorporation of diverse approaches and techniques for educational program design and delivery; and
  • consideration of practical and operational needs for delivery of educational programs.

Course Objectives
By the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • Design a learning needs assessment to explore a specific educational issue.
  • Develop appropriate goals and objectives for learners.
  • Utilize evidence and theory to develop and deliver clinical education programs.
  • Design an educational plan to address a specific learning need in the clinical setting.
  • Develop and present an educational tool for use within an identified educational program.
  • Describe opportunities and challenges for the design, delivery and facilitation of education in the practice setting.

Audience
Nurses with an interest in nursing education in the practice setting. This course will be of importance to those who have current responsibilities for nursing education and/or professional practice as a component of their roles who wish to enhance their knowledge, as well as, for those considering a role in nursing education as a career opportunity.

**Please Note:**
This is one of three required courses for the “Certificate in Nursing Education for the Practice Setting” (Not-for-credit). It may be taken as a “stand alone” course however, if taken as part of the certificate, all three required courses must be completed within a two year period. Each course will be offered once or twice per year to allow completion of the certificate within the two year period.
