POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Performance Excellence is responsible for the development of professional practice, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management programs and for oversight of Accreditation and other associated certification processes across the hospital. This includes planning, development, coordination and evaluation of corporate programs and establishment of applicable standards, processes, performance indicator monitoring and reporting systems. This position provides strategic and operational leadership to the Performance Excellence team in order to support the enhancement of organization capacity to achieve excellence and efficiency in service performance in alignment with the Strategic vision and plan, current legislation and evidence base and applicable standards. The Director works collaboratively with the Board, management team, program and service teams, physicians and staff members to coordinate the alignment of corporate and program/department professional practice, quality improvement, patient safety and risk plans and initiatives and to lead the development of a just and patient centered culture that supports continuous performance improvement.


  • Master’s Degree in health related discipline required.
  • Current registration with a Regulated Health Professional College required.
  • Certification in continuous quality improvement, Lean (minimum Green Belt level), Six Sigma or a related discipline preferred.
  • Project Management certification is preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years clinical experience in hospital setting is required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressive management experience in one of professional practice, quality improvement, patient safety and/or risk is required.
  • Excellent working knowledge of current legislation of Governing Health Care Facilities (e.g. Excellent Care for All Act, Public Hospital Act, Mental Health Act, Quality of Care information Protection Act, PIPEDA).
  • Demonstrated experience with the Accreditation Canada process and knowledge related to application of standards and measures.
  • Excellent leadership skills and the ability to coach, mentor and motivate individuals and teams toward improved performance.
  • Commitment to maintain a comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of laws, policies, standards or regulations and research.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary team management and with the principles of patient-focused model of care preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in change management, project management, conflict resolution, strategic healthcare planning, team building and resource management. LEAN healthcare methodology.
