Clinical Nurse Educator – One (1) Full-time

Etobicoke General Hospital and Brampton Civic Hospital (Labour and Delivery and Postpartum)
Must have the ability to travel to all sites and to work with staff at both sites as required


HOURS: Full time 37.5 hours per week; some evenings/nights and/or early mornings required
(Subject to change in accordance with the operational requirements)

Reporting to the Corporate Director of Women’s, Children’s and Seniors program, the Clinical Nurse Educator for Women’s and Children’s Healthcare Services is a strong self- directed leader with sound clinical knowledge and experience in Obstetrics with excellent communication and facilitation skills. The Clinical Nurse Educator contributes to a positive learning culture and the program goal of family centered evidence-based quality care with optimal outcomes, through clinical and administrative leadership in identifying, reviewing and enhancing patient safety issues and education planning. More specifically, the functions of the Clinical Nurse Educator include but are not limited to; developing overall awareness and knowledge of staff and physicians regarding quality and safety issues; leading the continuation of MORE Ob program philosophy; participating in the identification, review and follow-up on situations involving risk or safety issues; developing policies in general, and specific quality and safety as required; developing, and implementing QM audit tools and analyzing and presenting findings and recommendations from audits; identifying education needs of staff and collaborating with program leadership team members in addressing these; and participating as an active member on the Program Quality Care Committees. Co-ordinates and provides initial and ongoing orientation/ staff development within the program including corporate education initiatives.

• RN with at least 5 years’ experience in Obstetrics and evidence of excellent clinical knowledge
• Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• CNA Perinatal Certification preferred
• Previous experience in formal leadership/management position such as manager, CNS, or educator
• Baccalaureate degree in nursing minimal requirement. Master’s degree or evidence of working towards
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Advanced Obstetrical courses required
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program Instructor preferred
• Fetal Health Surveillance Instructor preferred
• Sound knowledge of patient safety issues in obstetrics and newborn care essential
• Proficiency with MS Office, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint required
• Highly motivated, self-directed individual with demonstrated ability to work well on multidisciplinary teams, and collaborative with other program clinical educator s
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, and communication (written, verbal and English comprehension) skills
• Demonstrated skill in developing QM data collection tools, gathering and analyzing data, writing reports and policies
• Excellent presentation, teaching and facilitation skills
• Demonstrated sound organizational skills with evident ability to problem solve well and to handle multiple priorities in a fast paced work environment
• Proven project management abilities as evidenced by previous experience
• Highly professional manner with evidence of networking skills and ability to convey a positive impression of the program and WOHS with external contacts
• Demonstrated ability to handle politically sensitive situations appropriately and to cope well with organizational change
• Evidence of initiative in ongoing knowledge development and reflective practice
