Nurse Educator Full-time
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Nurse Educator to make a strong contribution to the professional development model of care, knowledge dissemination, scholarship and the advancement of nursing practice at Bridgepoint.

Nursing education is an essential component of professional development that advances the practice of nursing. Nurse educators develop and facilitate education and professional development to support nurses to attain excellence in nursing practice related to the care of patients with complex care and complex rehabilitation needs. Through the use of depth and breadth of knowledge that is grounded in theory, research and experience, nurse educators influence the care that is provided by nursing staff to meet the needs of patients and families.

The Nurse Educator supports Bridgepoint Hospital’s culture of scholarship, professionalism and continuous professional development by:
a) assessing and identifying the educational needs of nurses
b) developing, implementing and evaluating education programs to assist nurses in acquiring and sustaining knowledge, skills and judgment that contributes to high quality patient care
c) advancing best practices and standards of care
d) establishing processes to promote and evaluate clinical competence and professional practice in alignment with the College of Nurses of Ontario quality assurance standards
e) working with other health discipline colleagues using an interprofessional collaborative model of practice to enhance patient care

• Baccalaureate degree in nursing required; Master’s degree in nursing or education preferred or a commitment to completing a relevant graduate degree within 3 years of hire date
• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
• Membership in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO)
• Certification in a clinical specialty area preferred
• Membership in specialty related professional association preferred
• Five years recent clinical nursing experience
• Two years teaching experience
• Use of effective teaching strategies, incorporating educational theories and current, evidence-based practice standards
• Effective interpersonal skills
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)
• Effective communication, both oral and written formats
• Ability to direct, supervise, teach and advise nursing staff in the area of nursing practice and skill development on both an individual and group basis.
• Demonstrated skilled clinical practice and leadership ability
• Excellent group facilitator and effective presentation skills
• Thorough working knowledge of current nursing theories, evidence and practice standards
• Excellent working knowledge of current and future trends in health care
• Working knowledge of current related to health of patients/families and employees
• Conversant with the mission, vision and values statements of Bridgepoint Health as well as relevant policies, procedures and quality assurance programs
• Demonstrated understanding of relevant health legislation and legislative bodies (e.g., Local Health Integration Networks, Regulated Health Professions Act, Public Hospitals’ Act)
• Expertise in use the media/audiovisual equipment
• Ability to use technology/computers (e.g., Power point, Excel, word-processing)
• Relevant clinical equipment (e.g., IV pumps, glucometers)
