Managing Urgent/Emergent Clinical Problems for Adults
Overview
This intensive course will focus on the management of urgent/emergent clinical problems that may be encountered by Nurse Practitioners working in any setting where paediatric patients present with acute conditions. Topics include: acute change in level of consciousness, heart failure, acute kidney injury, dyspnea, limb pain, abdominal pain, wound/ostomy management, hypotension, management of fluids and electrolytes, and acute pain management. An interactive and case based approach will be utilized to review the acute clinical problem with a focus on critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills. The course will focus on equipping nurse practitioners with the knowledge and skills to confidently assess and develop a treatment plan through exploration of differential diagnoses and relevant pathophysiology, identification of assessment findings, a discussion of the relevant diagnostic approaches, determination of a therapeutic plan of care, and red flags for intervention/consultation.
