Welcome to the latest edition of the PNEIG newsletter. I am honored to be the new co- Chair of PNEIG with Priya Herne. With Priya’s background as a Nursing Practice Leader at Toronto East General Hospital and my role as a Nurse Educator with BScN programs, we bring a wealth of educational experience to the role, with the vital connection between education and practice. This is a very exciting time for Nurse Educators but one in which we face daily challenges in our roles with students.

CASN held its Biennial Canadian Nurse Education conference last week. Great to see Nurse Educators from across the country focusing on ‘Expanding Horizons in Nursing Education’, with key themes around:
• developing administrative leadership and political skills
• overcoming barrier with visible and invisible [students and patients]
• facilitating the transition from student ot nurse
• simulation and clinical: when and how to use them?
• informatics: new tools for education and practice
• innovations in teaching and learning

Check out the new RNAO BPG ‘Practice Education in Nursing’, full of evidence-based recommendations to support the undergraduate nursing student application of knowledge to the practice a variety of learning environments. Your PNEIG Executive is is busy planning a fall workshop around issues with Preceptorship. The new BPG ‘Practice Education in Nursing’ has several recommendation that we will build into the workshop. Details to follow.

We look forward to seeing you at upcoming PNEIG events and workshops that are held provincial and in your region.

Enjoy the lovely summer that is upon us.
