If your clinical teaching experience is combined with advanced clinical skills and proven use of quality improvement strategies and methodologies, this full-time position within our Corporate Education Department, based at the St. Catharines Site, could offer a welcome career move.

Driven by a fundamental passion for, and commitment to Patient/Client Centered Care and Inter Professional Practice through the delivery of evidence-based care, you will be responsible for the identification of learning needs, and the planning, implementation and evaluation of knowledge translation activities that support professional excellence for nursing and other clinical practice disciplines. As a Nurse Educator, you will report to the Regional Director, Professional Practice Program and to the Director of Women’s and Babies Program, and work collaboratively with the Regional Education Team, the Program Team, and the Clinical Leadership Team to achieve Niagara Health System (NHS) Professional Practice goals for staff, patients and families.

To join our team as a full-time Nurse Educator, you must be an experienced and qualified Registered Nurse whose knowledge base and skill set include:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Baccalaureate degree (master’s degree preferred).
  • Current certification in BCLS, PALS and NRP.
  • Advanced clinical skills in all areas of Women’s, Babies and Children’s Health, including Pediatric Care, Fetal Health Surveillance, C-Section roles (i.e., Scrubbing, Circulating),
  • Post-Anesthetic Recovery Care, and Postpartum Care.
  • Knowledge of nursing practice standards as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario, with related professional practice expectations (e.g., SOGC, ALARM, AWHON, CWON, and CPS).
  • Effective knowledge transfer, program planning and evaluation skills related to clinical practice and the practice of education.
  • Experience or certification in Adult Education, with proven ability to achieve education and practice outcomes through programs delivered to individuals and groups, including recent, related clinical teaching experience in a similar hospital environment.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills, as well as coaching, mentorship and leadership skills, to facilitate the identification and development of staff learning needs.
  • Commitment to excellence in all elements of professional practice, including excellence in patient care processes, collaboration, and professional growth through education and research use.
  • Experience with quality improvement strategies and methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective clinical practice leadership.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management and ability to work within budgetary and time constraints to bring about successful completion of education-specific project goals and objectives.
  • Superior leadership, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lead change, set priorities and problem-solve.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of an inter-professional team.
  • Demonstrated computer skills in all Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook, and a willingness to explore other computer applications to achieve professional practice objectives.
  • Ability to balance organizational and program goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education, and to the NHS vision, mission and values.
